Robinhood buying power is money available for purchases, while withdrawable cash is money Robinhood has cleared for transfer. Checked on ****, the difference may matter most in accounts with a $2,000 margin requirement. You cannot withdraw buying power unless the same amount also appears as withdrawable cash.
How to Withdraw Money From Robinhood
In the Robinhood app or on Robinhood Web:
- Select Account.
- Open the Menu.
- Select Transfers → Withdraw.
- Enter the amount you want to withdraw.
- Choose the Robinhood account holding the money.
- Select your linked bank account, debit card, or another eligible destination.
- Review the fee, if any, and confirm the transfer.
- Select Transfer.
Robinhood shows the amount currently available for withdrawal before you confirm the transfer. You can find your personal withdrawal limits under Transfers → Transfer limits.
Buying Power Versus Withdrawable Cash
| Robinhood balance | What it means | Can you withdraw it? |
|---|---|---|
| Buying power | Money available to purchase stocks, options, futures, or crypto | Not always |
| Withdrawable cash | Cash Robinhood has cleared for withdrawal | Yes, subject to limits and account restrictions |
| Unsettled sale proceeds | Money from a recent stock or options sale that has not finished settling | Usually not yet |
| Pending deposit | Money recently transferred into Robinhood | Not until Robinhood makes it available for withdrawal |
If your buying power is higher than your withdrawable cash, the difference may come from unsettled sale proceeds, a pending deposit, money reserved for an order, collateral, or margin-related funds.
Why You Cannot Withdraw All of Your Buying Power
Recent Stock or Options Sale
Stock and options trades generally settle one trading day after the trade date, known as T+1 settlement. Robinhood generally makes the proceeds available for withdrawal on the second day. Weekends and market holidays can change the timing.
For example, a Monday stock sale may become available for withdrawal on Tuesday after settlement. The amount and date shown in your Robinhood account control when you can transfer the money.
Pending Bank Deposit or Instant Deposit
Robinhood may give you buying power from an Instant Deposit before the bank transfer finishes. You can use those funds for trading, but you may not be able to withdraw them yet.
Robinhood says a bank deposit can take up to five business days to complete.
Pending Orders
Money reserved for an open or pending order does not appear in withdrawable cash. If you no longer need the order, cancel it and check the available withdrawal amount again.
Margin Investing
If margin investing is enabled, Robinhood may require you to keep at least $2,000 in account value. To withdraw below that amount, disable margin investing under:
Account → Menu → Investing → Margin investing
Withdrawing unsettled funds from a margin account may also lead to margin interest or other account consequences.
Options or Futures Collateral
Robinhood may hold cash or securities as collateral for some options and futures positions. That collateral can reduce the amount available for withdrawal until you close the position or the collateral requirement changes.
Account Restrictions or Transfer Limits
A withdrawal may be blocked by an account restriction, transfer limit, fraud review, or incorrect account information. Check for an alert or banner in the Robinhood app, then review Transfers → Transfer limits.
How Long Does a Robinhood Withdrawal Take?
A standard ACH withdrawal may be processed by Robinhood in about one day, but the receiving bank may take longer. Other methods have different fees and timelines.
| Withdrawal method | Typical timing | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Standard bank transfer, ACH | Robinhood generally processes it in about one day, but the receiving bank may take longer | No fee |
| Instant bank transfer or eligible debit card | Up to about 30 minutes | 1.75%, with a $1 minimum and $150 maximum |
| Wire transfer | Typically the same business day when submitted before 4 p.m. ET | $25 in many cases |
Your available methods, limits, fees, and processing times depend on your account. Robinhood displays those details before you confirm the transfer.
Moving Money to Robinhood Banking First
You can transfer money from a Robinhood investing account to an eligible Robinhood Banking account. That internal transfer is generally instant.
To move the money from Robinhood Banking to an external bank, start the transfer from the Robinhood Banking app rather than the investing withdrawal screen.
The amount shown under Account → Menu → Transfers → Withdraw is the amount Robinhood allows you to move at that time. If it is lower than your buying power, wait for the relevant sale, deposit, order, margin requirement, or collateral hold to clear.
